Things people ask before starting

How do I know if therapy is right for me? +
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply curious about yourself — that's enough. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many clients come simply wanting to understand themselves better and build a more intentional life.
What does a typical session look like? +
Sessions are 50 minutes and are guided largely by what feels most pressing for you that week. There's no rigid structure — we follow the thread of whatever matters most, while keeping your larger goals in view. Some sessions are exploratory and reflective; others are more skills-focused.
Do you accept insurance? +
We are an out-of-network provider. Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network therapy. We're happy to provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer. Please contact us to discuss sliding-scale options if cost is a concern.
Is everything I share kept confidential? +
Yes. Confidentiality is foundational to therapy. What you share stays between us, with narrow legal exceptions (immediate risk of harm to yourself or others). We'll discuss these clearly in our first session so there are no surprises.
How long will I be in therapy? +
It varies widely. Some clients find 12 sessions transformative; others prefer ongoing support over years. We'll regularly revisit your goals together and let your own sense of progress — not a fixed timeline — guide the work.
What is your sliding scale? +

Seeking therapy is an investment, and I understand that financial challenges can make accessing care difficult. Because of this, I provide a limited number of sliding-scale slots for low-income clients. Please contact me directly to inquire about availability and rates.

Please keep in mind that sliding-scale rates are structured as temporary support rather than permanent fee reductions. If a rate adjustment becomes necessary in the future, I will provide adequate notice so you can make an informed decision about your ongoing care together.

What is a Good Faith Estimate? +

A "Good Faith Estimate" is an estimate of the expected costs for treatment. It helps clients understand potential fees before starting treatment, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making. As of January 1, 2022 the "No Surprises Act" went into effect. This law states that health care providers are required to provide a good faith estimate to individuals who are uninsured or self-paying for services.

You are entitled to receive this "Good Faith Estimate" of what the charges could be for psychotherapy services provided to you. While it is not possible for a psychotherapist to know, in advance, how many psychotherapy sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person, you can be provided with an estimate of the cost of services provided. Your total cost of services will depend upon the number of psychotherapy sessions you attend, your individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided to you.

You have the right to initiate a dispute resolution process if the actual amount charged to you substantially exceeds the estimated charges stated in your Good Faith Estimate (which means $400 or more beyond the estimated charges).

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers, or call 1-800-985-3059. The initiation of the patient-provider dispute resolution process will not adversely affect the quality of the services furnished to you.

What is your cancellation policy? +

24-Hour Notice: If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment please provide me with at least 24 hours' notice. This allows me to offer that appointment slot to another client who may be in need of my services.

Late Cancellations or No-Shows: If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours' notice or do not show up for your scheduled session, you will be charged the full session fee.

Emergencies: I understand that emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can sometimes conflict with your scheduled session. In these situations, please contact me directly so that I can accommodate your needs.

Your first session starts with a conversation.
